The Scavenger Hunt

I'm a full blown Scavenger by nature, I LOVE the thrill of the Hunt... and I've been known to go through great lengths to discover Hidden Treasures in obscure places.  I'm not too proud that I would pass up curbside Treasure and I'll wade through piles of junk at Tag Sales, Thrift Stores, Estate Sales, Flea Markets, tiny Shops and the like to uncover Junque Gold!  The difference between junk and Junque is all a matter of perspective of coarse, as one man's trash can be another man's Treasure.  It's a rush for me and I enjoy the challenge of having "The Scavenger Hunt".  I almost never come up empty handed... even though some days I'm not buying, I still enjoy the Hunting aspect of it and the Discovery.  Often the exhileration is just from looking at something that catches my eye or my fancy... I don't have to necessarily have it to enjoy it and be thrilled by it.   Case in point is Hats... I love Vintage Hats, but I'm not a Hat Person, only because I don't carry it off so well as the avid Hat Person does... though I wish I could.  I'll plop a cool Hat on my head just to make sure it doesn't look amazing on me... alas, usually it does NOT! *smiles*  My Bohemian Mom is a Hat person, she can look fabulous in ANY Hat and wear it with complete confidence and style... like a Carmen Miranda *LOVED her Style*... some folks just have that flair and will not look ridiculous in even the most theatrical of Hats!  I'll let you in on a 'lil Secret, if you promise not to tell anyone *shush, wink*... I'd LOVE to look amazing in Men's Hats... especially Fedoras... a Raquel Welch can look amazing in one... but then a Raquel Welch can look amazing in
 ANYTHING! *Smiles*

So you might be wondering... what DID I come away with on the Scavenger Hunt on the day of the above photos?  The Belgian Velvets *naturally*... the cute 'lil European Metallic fabric Bohemian style Bag... and the amazing ornate Antique Brass Doorknob... and ALL for under $35!  Yes... having that Scavenger Gene has been a Blessing in disguise... because those of us who enjoy the process of Scavenging... well, we find some pretty good stuff don't we... even those of us who didn't get the "Looks Good in Hats" Gene!  *wink*  ... A Gentle Reminder: The Reason For The Season

And though there's alot of great stuff out there that we'd like to have or can be a distraction... let us not forget the REAL Reason for the Season... JESUS!

It is with a heavy Heart that I've watched the News the past few days since the madness of "Black Friday"... people trampled and shoved out of the way, shoppers fighting with each other over Christmas bargains... folks forgetting to show God's Love towards one another in this most Holy of Seasons!  I am a Seasonal Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army, I spend the entire day standing in front of some of the busiest stores and I've witnessed folks cursing each other out over a mere parking space, so harried and hurried that they forget to be polite and show the most basic of civilities... it grieves my Spirit and I'm certain it grieves the Lord's.  I think it matters not to the Lord if we manage to score that big screen TV at a rock bottom price... it simply isn't the Reason for the Season.  He sent His Son to this World at Christmas over 2000 years ago out of Love for Mankind, the ultimate Sacrifice to reconcile us to Himself and show us how much we ALL mean to Him... regardless of who we are or how far we have yet to come in our individual Faith walk and Spirituality.  He wants Relationship with each of us... and He instructs us through His Word to Love our Neighbors as ourselves... and who is our Neighbor?  Well, it's YOU... and YOU... and YOU... and ME... yes, it's ALL of us, every single Person on the face of this Earth... the lovely and the unlovely alike!  And though there is lots of great stuff out there that catches our eye and we would like to have this Christmas or would like to buy for our Loved ones... this is just a gentle reminder not to let the stuff so distract us that we forget to show God's Love to all of the Beloved we come into contact with each day... especially this Holiday Season... to Honor Jesus Christ properly and through us show Him to others by our Love and by being His Hands and Feet on this side of time and eternity... Blessings and Love to you all... Dawn... The Bohemian

WHY Am I Postponing This!?!

Have you ever found something absolutely perfect... that you instantly adored and felt you HAD to have... but it was not within your immediate budget... so you made a Note To Self to Save towards?   And then... because it might take too long... or too much restraint not to utilize the Savings for other more easily affordable Lovelies, or some emergency or necessities that always seem to crop up at the most inopportune time... well... the purchase just kept getting postponed and put off... again and again?  And each time you get a level of frustration and renewed resolve and ask yourself... WHY am I postponing this... REALLY?!?  This is ridiculous... I need to be more driven and focused on the Prize!  You know that if you wait too long it might just be too late and you've lost your golden opportunity to score a OOAK piece that had been calling to you for what seems like an eternity!   I do this sometimes... especially when it's an expensive piece and a definite luxury and self-indulgence that I'm conflicted about... because of the cost... and yet... I WANT it... BADLY!!!   Now, sometimes good fortune smiles upon me and I eventually score a long coveted piece by being focused upon reaching the goal of acquisition... patiently... hope, hope, hoping that nobody else snatches it away just before I have squirreled away the amount it will take to make it MINE! *Gasp*  Yep, that has happened too and it's the ultimate letdown... I'll rush in with the means to FINALLY take it Home with me, quivering with excitement and anticipation... only to find... OH NO *sucking in breath, frantically searching, checking and re-checking in hopes to find it*... too late... it's GONE! *sob, knashing of teeth, wringing of hands... pouting like a petulant child*   I'll admit, it's not as if I'm deprived by any means... I am hard working, tenacious and resourceful... and I can sacrifice and do without a lot to get what I really would like to have... so over the years I've feathered my Nest and adorned myself with some truly great things that I love.  I have managed to budget for just about anything I really wanted badly enough... or that my Loved ones wanted badly enough.  I'm exceedingly Blessed, even if I never acquire another thing. *Okay, so THAT'S not likely to happen and a definite exaggeration, but you know what I mean peeps! LOL*  And yet, it's the ones that got away that often haunt me all the same, the disappointment never really goes away completely, I'm tenacious that way too... and in many ways in fact.   I really need to be wealthy *smiles*, because I definitely have Champagne Taste and Caviar Dreams *wink*...   I adore beautiful things, unique OOAK items, Art in all forms... the list of things I'm passionately in love with is virtually endless and of coarse I know I can't have it all.  But there are those particular things that I seem to be on a constant quest to Saving towards... bit by bit... and I feel as though they're already mine even before I ever actually attain them... so I go to "visit" with them as often as I can *smiles*... caressing them, photographing them, lusting over them... wondering... if and when they will be able to finally come Home with me???  Usually it's months of patiently planning, strategizing, sacrificing, working like a maniac... to come up with a way and make it a possibility... because anything worth having is usually worth waiting for. Instant gratification is not always possible and priorities have to be in order and balanced... a 'want' is not a 'need' after all.  But I am of the inclination that I ALWAYS buy the very best that I can afford... even if it takes me much, much longer going that route... quality is everything... I'd rather own one fabulous item than dozens of mediocre ones.  And so I wait... right now the patience is in acquiring this particular Lacey OOAK vision *major swooning going on*... I've shared it before... more than once actually... so long has been my lustfest with it *LOL*... and you all will probably be relieved when either: #1 I get it, tell you about it and you never have to see or hear about it again... or #2 someone else gets it and I have to give up the goal, lament and whine to you about my misfortune, and take the time I need to let it go and attempt to get over it *le sigh*... but let's Hope it's #1...  and I'm working my 'lil fingers to the bone to make it happen... some kinda way... (and now for some strange reason mentioning the words fingers and bone together I've suddenly got that old C&W Song my Dad used to love stuck in my head about work your fingers to the bone and what do you get?  Boney fingers, boney fingers! LOL)  But I regress... having to work hard at attaining something special will make the victory all the more sweeter... to earn the right to finally parade around in THE TOP... and feel like a Bohemian Princess bedecked in my coveted Lacey garment paired with one of my MP Bloomers... *contented sigh*  And IF I can swing it sometime before the end of December, I have a 20% Off Coupon *Whoo Hoo and fingers crossed*... Lunch Amid November Roses

My Dad, a Retired Master Chef, always said you eat with your eyes first... and I realize that the ambiance and presentation is paramount to me when I'm dining. Sure, the food has to be good to keep me coming back... but I must say, that if it looks as delightful as it tastes and the setting is ideal... well, count me in as a "regular".  Cee Cee's On The Corner is such a place where the food, the presentation and the ambiance is perfect and so it is a Joy to dine there.  What can beat a delightful lunch amid November Roses on the front Porch?  And Cee Cee's Roses look surreal, they are HUGE!  I'm a big fan of Roses... and good Food... and beautiful old Houses... and Vintage Lovelies... and Architectural Salvage... and fabulous Vignettes... and gorgeous Chandeliers... and friendly Proprietors... and DETAILS... so when I find a place that has it ALL, I'm in 7th Heaven.  Cee Cee has managed to have it all at her place and the atmosphere and hospitality is such that you feel as though you just went for a meal at a good Friend's Home that cooked it especially for you.  AND you can go Shopping while there... because yes, many of the fabulous Vintage items throughout the Restaurant are for Sale... AND there's a little Shop below Cee Cee's Studio that always has great Found Treasures waiting to be discovered by YOU!  Well... that's if I don't beat you to them!? *wink* Even the Powder Room will take your breath away... there are lovely Vignettes everywhere.  On the particular day I dined there I had the "Daily Special" of Grilled Chicken Pitas with a cup of home-made Soup AND fresh Fruit Salad AND Raspberry Lemonade AND Rose Petal Cake!  *SO Good and a GREAT price for an entree, soup, salad, drink & dessert!!!* The colorful little Finch kept eyeballing me during the entire meal, perched on the climbing Roses, he SO wanted me to share. *wink* So, sit down my Friends on a beautiful warm Winter afternoon in the Desert... amid gigantic November Roses... and delight all of your senses... perhaps we'll see each other there...
